Focusing again

De una Voigtlander Vitesse, hecha pomada.

So... this is not a neat and organized blog, but rather a messy, contradictory, incomplete notes on what I am spending my free time these days.

We are in Chicago and it is a relatively nice day today, not cold, and with a little bit of shine as if the sun is somewhere above us. Here is the proof from my window:

The project that I am working on now is to adapt the Lanthar lens to a Sony A7iii. Luckily, someone already did this and I am directly copying his/her recipe. I am talking of Lens Bubbles

So... Bubbles used three things to intercalate between the lens and the camera. Actually four: the forth is JB Weld que no es otra cosa que el viejo y querido Poxipol. Y si, para comprender todo lo que yo escribo hay que saber varios chamuyos. The first three things that Bubbles used are:
  1. A 52 mm ring filter (glued to the lens)
  2. A 52 mm to 42 mm step-down ring
  3. A thin M42 to E-Mount adaptor
The first task is to understand what exactly were these three parts, which was not difficult thanks to Google. Then I order the parts from AliExpress for $12.97 including shipping.

I am still waiting for the M42/Sony adaptor (12/8/2022). Did I order the wrong one? These Sony A and E mounts get me confused all the time.

For the filter ring (1) you need a complete filter, for then crash the glass and keep the ring. Or maybe remove carefully the glass, depending how the glass is fitted to the ring. In my case, I got a filter that had a synthetic (kind of a plastic,... I don't know) thin black ring keeping the thing all together. It was difficult (to me) to spot what side was the stopper and what side had the retainer. I discover that by poking with a 'lezna' (que lindo decir lezna!). Here are some details:

This filter ring has to be glued to the back of the lens. I disassembled (not fully) before and remove the shutter blades and put it together again before forgetting the order of the parts. But now I have this situation:

The post that connects to the aperture ring is interfering with the filter ring that needs to be glued to the lens. Then we need to remove, or cut, that post that has no use for the current application. I guess is a Gard material, then cutting it could be challenging. Even more if we consider that metal dust falling to the aperture blades is not a desired outcome. The do I need to open the lens again? Bubbles, how I wish you were here... (My very good friend Tori Lamfri passed me the lyrics about a million years ago... ).
Notice that the female 52 mm threads have to be facing away from the lens, so the 52/42 mm reducer can be screwed to continue the assembly. This is opposite to what shows the picture above. Me confundí, porque los filtros tienen male threads to fit to the lens and also a female threading to attach more filters, if desired.

Mañana juega Argentina-Paises Bajos por los cuartos de final, y el que no salta es un holandés.

Até mais.
